What language will spoken on the course?
The course will be conducted in English. Members of staff are French speakers should you need any help with restaurants, trips accommodation etc. For French speakers you will need to be able to understand English, but French speakers on the staff will be there to assist you and offer translations where necessary.
How much choral experience do I need to have?
Preferably you will have sung the Fauré before. The Chilcott will probably be new to you but we will provide you with rehearsal MP3’s so you can learn it before you come on the course.
You need to be well prepared before you arrive and quick to learn whilst on the course as we have a full programme to perfect in only 6 rehearsals.
Is there any other repertoire I need to learn?
No. However we will be asking you in a questionnaire nearer the time of the course what your musical interests are and whether there is something in particular you would like to sing. In our afternoon sessions we will get groups of like minded people together to learn extra repertoire and perform it in an informal concert during the week. This might include some French partsongs, madrigals, barbershop, medieval or modern music, the choice is yours and we will welcome your ideas. We will endeavour to provide copies for extra repertoire.
Is there anything on the course I have to pay extra for?
If you are on the Full Choral or Vocal Soloists courses you will have free access to all our rehearsals, concerts, masterclasses and social events. For those of you on the Choral Course all coaching will be by group – the full choir with Brian Kay in the mornings, and smaller groups in the afternoons either run by yourselves or coached by a member of staff.
For those on Ann Murray’s soloists course all tuition will be on an individual basis either privately or in one of the daily public masterclasses.
For local residents on the Half Choral Course you will only have free access to the rehearsals with Brian Kay (followed by lunch on Monday – Thursday) and, of course, the final concert. If you would like to join in with our other activities we would recommend you book for the Full Choral Course. To attend one of the daily masterclasses with Ann Murray there will be a charge of €5.
Throughout the week we will be offering everyone a variety of pay-as-you-go options including restaurant visits, wine-tasting tours, visits to local historical sites, Yoga sessions etc. We will issue a list of these options in April 2020.
Do I need transport?
You do not need a car. If you have accommodation booked in the village you are within easy walking distance of our rehearsal and concert venues and Issigeac itself has everything you need for your stay. You can book a Taxi from the airport to Issigeac or contact us to ask about an airport transfer.
However Issigeac is in the centre of a large rural community and the Dordogne (Perigord) is one of the most fascinating historic regions of France. So if you wish to explore the area, or have booked accommodation outside of the village, yes you will need to hire a car. Car hire is cheap and easy when you book a flight.
Issigeac is wheelchair friendly. The Maison des Services, our principal rehearsal venue, is new and has been designed with accessibility in mind. Please contact us if you have any special requirements.
We will be providing lunches from Monday to Thursday and will offer vegetarian options and will endeavour to cater for most dietary requirements. We will send out a questionnaire in April where you can list any special requirements you may have, please contact us if you have any questions.
Please be aware that French restaurants don’t always offer vegetarian or vegan meals. For vegans especially self-catering is your best option.
All fees paid to Issigeac International Music Academy are non-refundable, therefore should you decide to cancel your booking we advise you to take out an appropriate insurance policy to cover your stay.
Any information you give us is for Issigeac International Music Academy use only. We promise not to give out or sell your personal details to any third party.
